John Oliver on Structured Settlements

Last Week Tonight with John Oliver recently aired a segment on structured settlements. More specifically, the segment focused on the predatory nature of factoring companies that prey upon the recipients of structured settlements. While entertaining with its emphasis on the infuriatingly catchy Wentworth commercial jingles, Oliver exposes what he calls the  “parasitic” nature of factoring companies and his warning is a good one: “This industry is just full of predators,” he said, and while these ads “seem benign”, it’s important to remember that these companies “do not have your best interests at heart”.
